ARANGIESKOP HIKING TRAIL

Arangieskop is a breathtaking 2-day hike in the Dassieshoek Nature Reserve, just outside Robertson. The route offers stunning views from start to end and features an overnight hut. The 21km hike is strenuous and challenging and requires a good level of fitness to complete, as it involves steep ascents and rugged terrain. Hikers should be prepared physically and carry adequate water supplies.
 
It is important to consider the weather before setting off and take care when hiking in adverse weather conditions. Proper preparation is always crucial for a safe and enjoyable hike. There is an alternative route on Day 2 for people who feel unsure about taking the very strenuous downhill. The first day is only 9.5km, but it will take you a good 6-8 hours to get to the hut, depending on your pace and amount of rest stops. The constant uphill makes for slow going.
 
Recommended:
Hiking poles are a great help. The weather can at times change without much warning, so carry a warm layer, a beanie and a rain jacket.
 
INFO:
The up route, marked by white footprints, is approximately 9.5km long (7 Hours) and the down route, marked with yellow footprints, is about 11,4 km (6 hours) long. The route may only be walked in the indicated direction. 
 
A cottage with 20 beds is available at Dassieshoek cottage.
Facilities include: electricity, a fridge and a stove. Please bring you own wood, braai grid, crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils and bedding.
 
The Arangieskop cottage at the summit sleeps 20.
Facilities include: A donkey boiler for hot water, solar lightning, braai grids and wood. No cooking utensils, pots, and pans.
 
The Arangieskop cottage will be open on your arrival. No code is needed.
A maximum of 20 hikers per day are allowed on the trail.
All fees are payable in advance.
