From gentle pony rides for little ones to longer, scenic rides for more experienced riders, we offer a range of horseback experiences in the Robertson Wine Valley. Our rides are thoughtfully guided and shaped around the people who join us. Whether you’re here for a vineyard escape, a quiet trail ride, or your child’s first time on a pony, the focus is on comfort, connection, and being present in the landscape.
 
Leandi Thompson, owner of one of Robertson’s most established riding schools for the past 11 years, brings 34 years of riding and guiding experience to Winelands Horse Trails. With studies in Equine Sciences, an international instructor certification, natural horsemanship training, and hands-on learning as an in-person attendant with Monty Roberts, Leandi’s depth of knowledge is matched only by her calm, intuitive connection with horses and riders alike.

Alongside her is her long-time friend and trail partner Joni-Leigh Doran; an internationally recognised equine and wildlife artist with 38 years of riding experience grounded in the traditional English riding style and enriched by extensive long-distance trail riding across diverse landscapes on her beloved SA Boerperd, Fynbos Hugenoot.

Together, they share over 70 years of combined experience, weaving horsemanship with mindfulness, presence, and a deep connection to nature. Every ride with these two is more than a trail; it’s an invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and experience the Winelands through the rhythm of the horse and the stillness of the land.
